Reaching For the Light

   "Reaching For The Light" is an original watercolor painting on 300 lb. cold press paper.  Trees are much wiser than we are.  They instinctively grow toward the sun and the rain, toward that which nourishes them.  If something blocks the sun, they grow around it and try even harder to reach the light.  In times of stress, we humans often do just the opposite. We often engage in self destructive behavior and withdraw into ourselves instead of reaching out to others or seeking out whatever feeds our soul.  I painted this during a dark time in my life. It is a departure from my usual painting process and was done intuitively.  Before I started, I had a vague notion of a tree, glowing with golden light but had nothing else planned.  The dark forest around it just grew under my brush - it almost painted itself. I feel that this painting was a gift and it is a reminder to always reach for the light.
